As the BPO workers represent a huge portion when it comes to the Philippines emerging workforce, DOH insists that it is necessary on their part to address all the health risk outsourcing workers are facing in their line of work. Unlike other companies where employees are working during the day, BPO industry has a different work schedule. As most outsourcing companies Philippines served clients from America and Europe, BPO employees are required to work on night shifts because of their client’s different time-zone. Working during the night is not a simple thing to do. If you are not used to it, it can greatly affect your work-life balance and psychological well-being too. BPO Employees Unhealthy Lifestyle Department of Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell - Ubial accentuate that BPO employees unhealthy lifestyle and high-stress level can lead to serious health conditions such as respiratory tract infection, gastrointestinal disease, diabetes and mental health disease. To address this alarming health issues within the BPO Philippines, DOH partnered with Johnson and Johnson established the BPO Healthcare Program. Launched last October 6, the program aims to supply quality health care information to every hard-working BPO agents. The program will be applied to different strategies and one of those is through the training of health care professional with BPO industries specific health modules. By doing so, health professionals will be able to provide a better diagnosis and will be able to improve BPO workers overall health. Johnson and Johnson headed by Jeffery Go said, “BPO agents are among the hardest working employees. Their work makes a difference in helping the country and, more important, uplifting their families. Our goal is to make sure we start a conversation with every BPO agent and help them live healthier and more vibrant lives.” Implementation of the program The BPO Healthcare Program will be implemented at this year’s last quarter. DOH and J&J will also include other activities to ensure that every BPO worker or agent has direct access to their quality healthcare information. The program will be sustained a throughout 2018 with a vision of reaching every BPO agent in the country. DOH and J&J believe that every BPO employee has the right to accurate and relevant information as they deal with these health challenges connected with their chosen career.
