The BPO recruitment process in the Philippines was never easy. Outsourcing companies have to dive in a sea of potential agents that are willing to work for the company. The tough part is going through the candidate's applications one by one just to find the person for the job. As many business process outsourcing companies struggle in finding the right applicant for their job openings, the people behind their recruitment team should come up with ways that can make their jobs a lot easier. With so many fishes in the sea waiting for employment, their job as a recruiter has never been harder. They have to go over every applicant's resume and assess if the candidate qualifies for the job. But going over applicants’ resume is not enough to assess if he or she qualifies for the job, especially if the company is looking for a customer service representative. Aside from the achievements and work experience, BPO recruiters are also evaluating candidates for characteristics that a customer support agent must have. Source: usconec.com
The struggle is real! A great percentage of workers employed under outsourcing companies in the Philippines are suffering from health problems related to their line of work. But, these problems cannot overshadow the fact that the BPO sector remains as the top industry for providing quality pay and good working condition in the Philippines. As outsourcing companies in the Philippines continue to make name and build good reputation, the Department of Labor and Employment cannot set aside the fact that 42.6 percent of BPO workers on night shift schedules are associated with health concerns and safety issues. These issues include sleeping disorders, over fatigue, eye strain, neck, back pain, and voice problems. Source: tqn.com
Have you ever tried using content marketing for your business? Content marketing is employed by most brands but the rising question is, is it just a traditional advertising that has been repackaged or does it serve its purpose to go beyond traditional advertising? “Content is King” is a phrase used by Bill Gates in 1996 in an essay concerning his company Microsoft. The word content had been associated with brands, which refers to paid for sponsored content to encompass TV commercials, blog posts, web-only films, tweets, and social media posts. Content marketing is a widely known method of creating content intended for distribution, engaging of highly targeted audiences and attracting new customers through backlinks creation. It’s a strategic marketing approach meant to create and distribute consistent, valuable and relevant information to attract and retain a specific audience in order to drive profitable customer action. Content marketing, especially in the B2B context drives traffic to one’s content in order to increase visibility, encourage backlinks for SEO/social shares, generate new customers and optimize a website for long keywords. It’s basically the art of creating distributed communication for the right audience that can result in positive impact of a brand or product by enhancing its reputation and moving prospects in closing a sale. Working in the BPO industry is clearly one of the top lists of job seekers nowadays, especially for fresh graduates. Job offers in outsourcing companies offer excellent work environment and high salaries. Whether you are a web content writer, a graphic designer, an order processing specialist, or a call center agent, BPO companies offer the best places to work in. On the other hand, being a call center agent is huge. Entering the BPO industry means entering into a stiff competition where agents work as warriors. You have to be competitive at all times and express a dynamic attitude regardless of the stress that you encounter from day to day. If you won’t be able to adjust and adapt to this kind of work environment, you might end up stagnant and jobless. Since customer service representative positions need call center agents who are flexible and efficient, it is important to find ways on how you can continuously grow and shake off stress. Try any of these hobbies and see which one works best for you. Source: cdn.makeuseof.com Engage in Sports
Facing your computer 5 to 6 days a week can be really exhausting. So instead of going out on your free day, you would probably just stay at home and take more sleep. But a study shows that engaging in sports regularly or at least once a week can make you more creative. Sports are better “better problem solvers” for call center agents as well as to other BPO employees. Bonus point: you can have a fit and strong body that can boost your performance. Establish Yourself Online There are tons of ways to establish yourself online. You can become a blogger, a vlogger, or an influencer who publishes creations and shares it with the world. Think outside the box, explore new things, and document it for others to see. You’ll be surprised how many people can learn from you at the end of the day. Grab Anything to Read It doesn’t matter if you are into fiction or non-fiction books. Reading anything under the sun can reduce your stress as long as you love it. If it makes you feel better, it will relieve your stress, and improve your intelligence. Reading can also help you detect patterns, solve problems, understand or process things better to respond effectively. Aside from work, it is better to indulge yourself in other non-work related activities as well. New hobbies or activities will prevent you from reaching the red mark which is the “burn out” level. So instead of increasing your wrinkles and fine lines by thinking of work, work, and nothing but work every second, develop new hobbies. You got questions? Talk to us! Nowadays, most BPO workers continue to live unhealthy lifestyles of chain smoking and heavy drinking. They tend to shun proper diet and regular exercise, claiming that it’s better to sleep than give time to upgrade their health. Although a lot of BPO companies already promote health and wellness among BPO employees with Call Center Company Olympics, still, only a small percentage of workers participate in them. Call Center of the World Currently, the BPO industry is considered as the second largest foreign exchange source. In fact, it’s the dollar earner of the Philippines next to remittances coming from overseas Filipino workers. This is also the reason why the country is hailed as the call center of the world due to our huge English-speaking workforce that drives the continuous demand for BPO workers. The Atmosphere of Workers in the BPO Sector However, most BPO agents indulge in excessive eating, drinking, and smoking because they think that it’s the only way to combat sleepiness and tension. Unfortunately, the health of BPO workers has a significant effect on their performance and productivity, which are the primary criteria of BPO companies to hire agents. Source: s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com Unhealthy eating habits and the lack of sleep along with unusual working hours and work related hazards are contributors that can decrease the agents’ productivity and performance. If adherence to productivity and performance isn’t achieved, BPO companies are penalized that results in loss of revenue that undermines their competitiveness in this highly competitive industry.
The turnover rate or attrition rate in call centers may be attributed due to workers suffering from sleep disorders, eye strain, fatigue, neck/shoulders/back pains, loss of voice, hypertension, diabetes, and others. Burnout due to irate clients, odd hours, heavy workloads, matrix and other demands are also underlying causes of attrition. In order to maintain the physical, mental, and psychological health of BPO workers, each BPO company must establish occupational safety and health programs, and form a health and safety committee. The Government’s Answer As an answer to this growing issue, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) requires BPO employers to maintain an in-house medical staff composing of 1 safety officer, a health doctor or physician and a health nurse. The special needs of pregnant and lactating women should be looked after as well along with older and disabled staff. What lacks in BPO workers is the ability to exercise. Companies should be able to provide a gym with an easy access just like the provided sleeping quarters. Call center agents need sleep, the same way they need to exercise. So before leaving the premise or starting a shift, they can do a few minutes of exercise which can focus their mind to stay alert, active and alive. That beats going to a costly gym and paying those horrendous and humongous gym fees and losing precious time for beating traffic. Despite US President Donald Trump’s anti-outsourcing stance and artificial intelligence (AI) scare, any sign that BPO recruitment in the Philippines will slack down is still nowhere to be seen. As a matter of fact, there is a very positive outlook as projected by JobStreet.com and the Philippines’ Marketing Manager Eileen Camarillo-Go. During a presentation at Cebu Jobs and Salary Report media briefing in Cebu City, Camarillo-Go revealed a good news. Source: sunstar.com.ph The industry that continued to generate the most number of new jobs for Cebu residences came from the business outsourcing process or BPO and it continues to grow without any sign of slowing down. In fact, the job listings for the entire country are continuously dominated by the BPO industry and any changes or effect isn’t expected to happen in the immediate future.
Leading Fresh Graduates Fresh graduates dominated 47% of the jobs in the BPO sector while the other 7% are for retail, 6% for manufacturing, and 3% for food and beverages. The common positions for BPO hiring include customer service, IT/software, and education specialists. Take home pay for those with less than 1-year experience and fresh graduates who are hired as education specialists by outsourcing firms get the highest pay of an average of P24, 375. Coming next are those who are hired for training and development with P22, 859, while those for journalism slots have P21, 095. Health care comes in with P20, 307 and the least is set at P19, 069 for those who are offered jobs in advertising and media planning. Junior Executive Level Those with 1 to 4 years of experience that belong to the junior executive level and hired as Information Technology (IT) specialists get an average monthly pay of P31, 262 which is why they are said to be the best-paid employees. Those that get a monthly rate of P30, 415 are bankers which come in the second slot while the third slot is set at P27, 197 for training and development. The fourth slot is for public relations and communications employees with P27, 125 while journalist/editors get a take home a monthly pay of P24, 600. But wait, there’s more! Seniority Comes with More Perks It’s getting lucrative for those who already have 5 to 10 years experience on the supervisory level who are topping the rank for the highest salary in the BPO industry are IT professionals with P51, 621. Corporate managers are highly paid as well with a monthly average of P139, 163. Then there’s a monthly take-home pay of P81, 625 for property and real estate managers, while IT managers garner a monthly average salary of P68, 255. A report from JobStreet.com reveals that majority of the new hires came from the University of Cebu, University of San Carlos, and Cebu Technological Institute. Hopefully, these reported salaries will be experienced by other BPO workers who are recruited in areas outside of Metro Cebu and Metro Manila like Lucena City. Can you say that you are working on a company with a good working environment? As a part of the company’s Human Resources team, what can you do to tighten or uplift your employees’ team spirit? Let’s face it; a good working environment does not magically happen overnight. The management and staff have to make some effort for it to take place. As you work in a BPO company, your greatest hindrance in achieving this goal is the employees’ work load and interchanging schedules. And with the obstacles cited above, do you think the Human Resources can succeed with the effort to uplift your team’s spirit? I hope you can. Because according to research, if you achieve a great working environment, your team will pay the company back with consistency, productivity, and excellence. That is great news for a rising company like yours, but how can you do that? Achieving a Harmonious Workplace with the Basics As part of the Human Resources team, you have to lay down the foundations of a good working environment. Remember, a cohesive team is produced by doing the basic right and by setting a clear expectation of your team’s culture. Honesty of the Team Members
Nothing can easily kill the team spirit like office whispers. Although whispering is entirely minor, it can still go through a series of spilling half-truths and cause greater issues. A policy of openness and honesty is needed for a great workplace environment. Besides, if everybody in the work station is part or included in the conversation, they would feel invested where the organization is going. As a result, this can lead to a greater work satisfaction. Recognizing Employees’ Great Work This is one of the reasons for why many employees leave their jobs because they don’t feel appreciated. Everyone wants to be appreciated. Even you would want to be recognized for a job well done. If the management fails to recognize employees’ hard work, it has a severe effect on their current motivation and future output. Encouraging the Fun Staff Non-working related activities during office hours break up any tiring day. An outside office activity allows teams to socialize naturally and helps boost their team spirit. Intentional Team Dress-Up Days Instituting a dress-up day may seem a little childish, but, it can still create a huge morale boost to your employees. The fun of dressing up can break the monotony of stressful working week. Working as a Team Solving company or client problems as a team can bring the group together. The unity that comes from this collaboration is valued by employees as contributing to the company’s success makes them feel like earning another achievement to be proud of. A good working environment is vital for the company to succeed. If you want your BPO Company to continue to flourish and be known in the industry, do your part as an HR member and start by keeping your employees intact with a heighten team spirit.
